Insulate Lofts & Pitched Roofs

Therma-Foil insulation for use in Lofts and under Pitched Roofs

Performance Thermal Insulation in a Thin, Flexible, easy to install sheet

Therma-Foil works by reflecting infra-red radiation. However,  this means that not only is our Foil Insulation effective in winter by reflecting heat into the building and cold out, but also in summer. It is a very effective solar overheating barrier reducing the need for artificial cooling systems, preventing uncomfortable heat build-up in the roof or penetrating the rooms below.

How to install Foil Insulation In your Loft

All you need is a staple gun and utility knife for installation. However, scissors would also do the job  To maintain maximum performance, Therma-Foil should be installed with a minimum of ¾” airspace on one side.

Use tape to join the lengths of Therma-Foil. To avoid gaps, we recommend you overlap the joints by 50-100mm. We also recommend that you should staple Therma-Foil every 16” to 24”.

General:

Leave 50mm clearance around heat-producing flues or light fittings.

Make sure that all ends of the Therma-Foil can be folded, stop the draft. Furthermore, Install any additional insulation by the manufacturers’ guidelines.  Make sure you always build following applicable Standards.

Fix it to the sides of the rafters with staples. Join the rolls as stated above. You should then ensure your roof is battered, and a breathable membrane gets installed. Along with the roof cover, to meet requirements and applicable standards.

(To interior) Roll out either parallel or perpendicular to the rafter and cut to the required length. Finish right down to the wall plate and fix it in place. Fix to rafters using staples and counter batten to prepare for the finished ceiling. We recommend using Vapour controlled plasterboard is.

Metal roofing:

Roll Therma-Foil perpendicular to the purlins. Allow Foil Insulation to sag between the purlins. Join rolls together as described above. Finally, Fix roof sheeting through Therma-Foil as per requirements and applicable standards.

Testimonials

Don’t take it from us, see what our customers think about Therma-Foil under their floors.

Therma-Foil in my loft  – it was very quick and easy to install – no need for gloves or protective clothing and the difference in the warmth in the home in the winter months is considerable, providing me with huge energy savings! It also reduces heat build-up in the summer, coming through the roof into the bedrooms below. Mrs C Wells (Poynton, Cheshire)

Our dining room above our cold and damp cellar made the room unappealing as everyone complain they were cold. We fitted Therma-Foil under our laminate floor, and we were astonished at the difference it made. Not only were we surprised how much warmer the room was. We also noticed how much softer and more comfortable the floor was to walk on.  J Bales, Edinburgh

On moving into our apartment, we soon realised that not only was our laminate flooring always cold. Also, the sound of us walking on it echoed throughout the rooms. Fitting Therma-Foil underneath has changed our lives – it’s now a much warmer home and much quieter.  Mrs M McNairn, Aberdeen
